I was commissioned by an interior designer to adapt a freestanding shelf unit marketed by a prominent after market company into a built-in wall unit that would still create the illusion of being freestanding. Part of the challenge was to create various levels of intrigue and interest with the plays between positive and negative spaces, open and closed cabinets as well as a play between all of the rectangular and square parts involved. Part of the intent was to blend into the surroundings but also to create a presence of its own. Another tall order that concluded happily.
