samurai table

the story

I like trestle tables. Not only do they allow a great range of motion under the table but they also present with a feeling of strength and solidness. Somehow, as I was holding this image in mind for a new coffee table design, I 'saw' a Japanese Samurai warrior, legs splayed and solidly planted, a ceremonial sword held before him; presenting himself humbly for assignment.

The expressed joinery and detailing are bold in this piece as are the emphases upon wood, proportion and durability - all my interpretations of a Japanese motif expressed both in architecture and its ancient warrior culture.
