the story

this client had a few outdoor 'devices' that he wanted to cover or camouflage with a well-conceived and attractive design. Part of his background was a belief in Buddhism and there were various Buddhas and small shrines scattered around his extensive property. I used that as a starting point for a design motif, borrowing from temple and shrine architecture in Nepal for the particular structure I'd design for this application. No one would realize that one of these small buildings houses a generator and the other a catch basin.

fir, cedar

  • a creative transformation of an ordinary outdoor site condition - a catch basin; lending a utilitarian 'hole in the ground' more of a whimsical purpose
